CHICAGO — The mother of fallen Chicago police officer Aréanah Preston is heading a community center effort in her honor. Preston's mother, Dionne Mhoon, has started a GoFundMe page to build a community center. ‘She lived her life fearlessly’: Fallen Chicago police officer Aréanah Preston laid to rest Mhoon is hoping to raise $150,000 to provide programs for Chicago's youth."It is now with heavy hearts that we seek support to uphold the legacy of Aréanah Preston by establishing a community center that will provide a safe place and support for Chicago's youth," a message from Mhoon's GoFundMe page stated. "Your support will fund Mental Health consultations, promote careers in Law Enforcement, GED courses, Gun Violence Prevention activities, College Tours, Scholarships and Mentorship Programs for underserved youth." A prospect who was once a member of the Chicago Cubs organization in the Dominican Republic is wanted in connection to a shooting death in that country.Per numerous local media reports, including MLB inside Hector Gomez and newspaper Diaro Libre in Santo Domingo, 18-year-old Josefrailin Alcántara is being sought by the Dominican National Police. Law enforcement there say Alcántara shot and killed 26-year-old Darwin Díaz Valerio in a car in Santiago Oeste on May 18.According to the reports, Alcántara allegedly shot Valerio twice inside a Hyundai Sonata in an argument over money. His cousin, Diego Aníbal Rodríguez Martínez, was in the car when the shooting happened and has been arrested by police. (WTVO) – An Illinois man has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing a backhoe and driving about 10 miles to catch a flight at an airport.Deputies in Williamson County say they were alerted to the alleged theft on May 18, following a call about a "suspicious" backhoe found parked in the lot at the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois."A few moments later the owner of the backhoe arrived on scene and identified the equipment as belonging to his company," the Williamson County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook news release shared earlier this week.The owner of the equipment then told deputies the backhoe had been parked nearly 10 miles away at a job site. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department responded to a crash that is currently impacting traffic in north Austin, the agency said on Twitter.Shortly before 3:30 p.m., APD said officers were at the scene of the crash in the 10400 block of North MoPac Expressway. HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) — Economic leaders in Hutto said announcements on businesses coming to the area could be shared as soon as the end of this summer.Bob Farley, economic development director, said interest in Hutto has grown in recent months as support industries to the Samsung semiconductor plant in Taylor look to plant roots ahead of the plant's anticipated opening late next year.He said he is not at liberty to say what businesses could be coming to the area just yet but said that plans were in the works.Farley said economic developments also continue in the city's Co-Op District which most recently welcomed a new Top Notch Hamburgers location.He said several more restaurants are set to open their doors in the still-developing district within the next year."Our city manager has just finished some negotiations with the developer of the Co-op and so there are going to be some additional things happening over the course of the next nine months.
