Girlschool is in for Alice Cooper: Jackie Chambers, guitarist with British metal trailblazers Girlschool told us about her Alice Cooper experience.Jackie Chambers: Well, my all-time favourite gig has got to be an Alice Cooper gig, so many to choose from so I’ll pick the one where we were opening for him in Spain a few years back.Like so many of Alice’s gigs the stage was set with all the usual props, the guillotine, the gallows, the coffin and all the other things that make every show he does so enjoyable. What made this one more spectacular was the fact that I got to go backstage beforehand, where the band took me around and showed me how it all worked.Watching that night, I saw it all with new eyes and was transported back to that little teenage girl again watching for the 1st time.As amazing as ever, I was buzzing for days afterwards.Girlschool is in for Alice Cooper: Girlschool’s new album WTFortyFive? is out from July 28. &nbs...New pizzeria and deli brings family-size meals to Pinole

Beach time, pool sessions and swimming lessons are in hot demand as temperatures soar across the Bay Area, but shorter hours and lengthy waitlists are creating challenges for families eager to beat the heat by jumping into cool waters. For novice swimmers, learning to float and blow bubbles may prove especially difficult this summer.More than three years after the world closed down, the pandemic continues to impact us in unexpected ways, including at public swimming pools and parks where last year’s lifeguard shortage has been joined by a swimming instructor shortfall. An excessive heat warning for the Bay Area over the weekend and inland temperatures expected to veer into triple digits in the East Bay are creating fresh demand that just can’t be met.In San Francisco, lifeguard rosters were only 77% full as summer kicked off. In Los Angeles County, pool hours have been cut in half. By JANIE HAR and MICHELLE CHAPMAN | Associated PressSAN FRANCISCO — Beer lovers flocked to Anchor Brewing Co.’s tap room on Thursday to mourn the loss of the iconic San Francisco business — and buy some of its last beers — a day after learning it planned to shut down for good.“I’m a native San Franciscan and I’ve been drinking the beer as long as I can remember,” said Suzanne Greva, who visited the business Thursday. “It’s one of my favorites and its like losing an old friend.”The 127-year-old brewing company, known as a trailblazer of craft beers, said Wednesday it would close after years of declining sales and tough economic conditions. The tap room, which closed on the day of the announcement, reopened Thursday to patrons lined up down the street to purchase T-shirts and cases of beer. LAS VEGAS – Most NBA data analysts ply their craft far from the basketball court, working more with percentages than pick-and-roll techniques, but Hannah Heiring isn’t the typical number-cruncher.There she was, on the court this week, running through drills along with the Warriors’ Summer League team in her role on the coaching staff in Las Vegas.Just two years ago, this would have never seemed possible to the 25-year-old former Division III guard who at that time was working remotely as a business analyst for a small insurance company.By last summer, Heiring was parading down Market Street after helping the Warriors win the NBA Finals. Now, after her first full season on the job, Heiring has entrenched herself within the organization and serves as a valuable resource to Steve Kerr and his coaching staff. She can also now say she’s one of only a handful of women to serve as an assistant coach at Summer League.“It’s still pretty surreal,” Heiring said.Heiring’s current job is a combi...Celebration at former Thomas Fallon statue site to take place in August

A cohort of activists including local indigenous groups will hold a celebration in August at the former site of the Thomas Fallon statue, which was taken down in April after decades of controversy and complaints that its presence served as a blatant symbol of American imperialism in downtown San Jose. The event — scheduled for Aug. 4 at the site of the former statue near Highway 87 on St. James Street — will include members of the Muwekma Ohlone tribe, the organizing center Centro Aztlan Chicomoztoc and the activist group San Jose Black Berets. After a cleansing and land acknowledgment, organizers will head to the corner of San Carlos and Almaden where Native American remains were discovered decades ago at a construction site. The event will continue at Plaza de Cesar Chavez’s Quetzalcoatl sculpture, which depicts a Mesoamerican deity, before concluding at St. James Park.“It is a victory celebration,” said Maria Quinonez Ortiz, who was part of the coaliti...Reader asks what to do about pushy drivers in slow lanes: Roadshow

Q: Gary, I’m a pretty conservative driver and a senior citizen. On four-lane roads like Highway 24 or Interstate 580, I usually drive the No. 3 or 4 lane at about 65 mph. Those who want to go faster can be in the 1 or 2 lane. But so often some hotshot, pushy driver will tailgate me when I’m in the slow lanes.Recently on 580 in San Leandro, I was in the 4 lane doing 65 when an SUV started tailgating and even flashing their headlights.Where are people who want to observe the speed limit supposed to drive? I know the DMV rules say slower vehicles stay to the right, but pushy people in a hurry now seem to go to the right if the 1 and 2 lanes aren’t going fast enough for them.Mike H., OaklandA: You are to be applauded for driving with the flow, and going the speed limit, and moving to the right, for all the reasons you describe. Pushy drivers need to back off, especially when they’re trying to bring their pushy ways into the slower lanes.Q: I just want to brag a b...Cal/OSHA to conduct targeted inspections at workplaces amid heat wave
